Cato was our 3rd parrot. A Blue Headed Pionus.
Before our African Grey was re-homed we had a very noisy sitting room. He was a mature bird when we got him – hand reared and tame. He never really liked me, but adored my wife. He used to mutter rather than talk. Inherited words were –
“Bugger bugger bugger – YOU bugger”
“Stupid! You stupid bird” – so not very polite!
Imagine that with a slight South Bedfordshire burr, and you’re there.
We never really knew how old he was when we got him, but they don’t fully develop the blue head till they’re about 5. We’d had him about 25 years when he succumbed to a short illness so we guess he was about 30 – a reasonable age for this species.
