Silver Grey Parrots
Ever wonder what are the most attractive of all parrot species? These are the Silver Grey Parrots or what is commonly termed as African Grey Parrots. Coming from central Africa, these breed of parrots are really smart and very talkative. They can even converse well as compared to other parrots like the Yellow Headed Amazon parrots. They are medium built and is measured up to 10 to 14 inches long. Different kinds of Silver Grey Parrots exist, which are the Congo African Greys, with a reddish tail and light grey feathers, and the Timneh African Greys that have dark charcoal like grey and a deeper shade of red on their tails. Male parrots are basically bigger than the female parrots. The male bird’s size is up to 12 to 14 inches long. Female birds of these kinds have typically slender necks and narrower heads than the male ones.
It is a big responsibility in owning pets, especially these kind of parrots since they also live long, though the Yellow Headed Amazons live 80 years long, they live as long as 60 years. These parrots are really smart, so they need to have a very knowing and understandable breeder to care for them. They also need a lot of interaction and socializing activities, as all parrots do to avoid boredom. When they get bored they tend to be irritated and start plucking their feathers. Without the proper guidance, these breed resort to making a lot of mess. You need to offer as owner, a very long patience and understanding when it comes for caring for these breed of parrots, since they might at timed have tantrums too. If you want to train your parrots, like the Silver Greys to behave and well-mannered, you can do so by undergoing some challenges on the way. Make it a point to in still to your pets discipline as much as possible to have only a few challenges. They could just as easily learn bad behaviors as learning good ones throughout their lives, so you need to plan out how to go about teaching your pets.
These Silver Greys are indeed an active breed of parrots. They like interaction and play. Outside the wild, they tend to go with their kind easily and fly together. They like to be very close by and love to be with their breeders cuddling with them. When you hear them regurgitate, this means that they are showing their affection and love for you. However, they don’t really like to be petted and scratched, yet they would even go so far as to try and kiss you. This should be avoided because human saliva has bacteria and could be harmful for your pets. As a good pet enthusiast, you need to take note of your obligation and caring for your parrots. They love being with someone and they don’t want to stay lonesome since this could lead to serious harmful tendencies, like biting and excess use of their vocal chords.
Lastly, like children, the Silver Greys have different attitudes they could acquire through time. It is in your hands to be able to train them and teach them good behavior.
